Dr. Bassam El Fahmawi

Dr. El Fahmawi is a scientist and entrepreneur, best known for inventing iSWAB for swab-based collection, and HemaSure-OMICs, a direct draw-tube for whole blood multi-omics analysis. He is the founder and CTO of Mawi DNA Technologies, a growth stage company working at the front lines of the COVID-19 battle. Dr. El-Fahmawi has more than 25 years of experience in the genomics sample preparation market. Early on in his career, he led the commercialization of nucleic acid purification technologies at both Beckman Coulter Genomics (formerly Agencourt) and Corning. Dr. El Fahmawi has published several patents for simplifying nucleic acid purification and sample collection. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Alberta.
